All of us have chosen to live on the edge of this beautiful, untamed Lake frontier. For that reason we are all, in a sense, adventurers. We come not only from cities throughout Michigan, but Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Florida, Texas, California, Illinois and Washington .
In making our choice to live here we did so knowing we would have to contend with the unpredictable moods of Mother Nature. That is the allure of the shore. In 1959 there were 22 cottages and one year-round home along the gravel North Shore Estates Road. That year the property owners formed the North Shore Estates Association (NSEA) to resolve matters of mutual concern, the most perceptible being the road, which was paved in 1966.
The 2011 NSEA make-up is in sharp contrast to those early years. Today there are about 70 year round homes and 50 summer residences.
Still after 47 years, when it all sorts out, road maintenance remains the primary business of our association.
